TVK pivots to Dec 9 rally plan as Puducherry blocks Vijay’s roadshow

Puducherry, Dec 4 (LatestNewsX) – The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has shifted its campaign tactics in Puducherry after the Union Territory authorities rejected a request for a roadshow on December 5. Instead, the party has filed for permission to stage a public meeting on December 9 at the Uppalam Port Grounds, showing how quickly it can adapt its plans.
TVK launched its campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections almost two months ago, aiming to build momentum across districts and solidify its growing base. A recent incident in Karur forced Vijay to halt his state‑wide tour and pause all major events, temporarily denting the party’s outreach.
After a month’s break, he resumed engaging with voters by visiting homes in Kancheepuram, signalling a gradual re‑entry into campaigning with a more measured approach to crowds and security. As enthusiasm returned, the party again sought approval for a large roadshow in Puducherry on December 5.
General Secretary Bussy Anand personally went to Puducherry and met senior police officials, even speaking with the Chief Minister, to try to secure the event. Despite several discussions, the police denied the request, citing reasons that were not immediately made public. After the meeting, Anand avoided press questions, leaving cadres and supporters speculating about the basis for the denial and whether political factors were at play.
Undaunted, TVK quickly redesigned its strategy. The party has now set a top‑line public meeting for December 9 at the Uppalam Port Grounds—an arrangement the administration may find easier to manage than a roadshow. A formal application was sent to the Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order), Kalaivanan, on Thursday, according to party sources.
They anticipate a strong turnout, given Puducherry’s strategic importance and the sizable crowds that Vijay’s earlier events there attracted. As the election season advances, observers note that the denial of the roadshow, coupled with the party’s swift pivot to a public meeting, underscores how sensitive and competitive the pre‑poll climate has become in the region.
TVK leaders see the rally as a crucial platform for Vijay to reassert his political presence after the brief pause and to affirm the party’s commitment to the 2026 Assembly elections. While authorities review the December 9 request, the TVK cadre is preparing for what they hope will become one of the party’s largest gatherings in the area, viewing it as a test of organizational strength and a symbolic relaunch of Vijay’s campaign.
