Bhubaneswar police recently shut down a fraud ring that had been tricking people by pretending to be officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Two men, Choudhury Rinku Saini (36, Karnal) and Maninder Singh (39, Sonipat), were caught after a raid at a hotel in the city. Their goal was to present forged IDs and letters, claiming that Saini was the chairman of a national commission and Singh his personal assistant.
Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh explained that the duo sent “official” emails from a government address, demanding pilot protection and escort services. The officers traced the documents to the MHA but the ministry confirmed it never issued such letters or created a “National Commission for Social Justice and Women Empowerment.” A quick check of the Indian government’s records showed no such commission exists.
Because the paperwork was fake and the men used forged documents, the police say the pair committed forgery and fraud. Dharmayā Prime Estates.
The Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jagmohan Meena, said a criminal case has been registered under several sections covering cheating and forgery at the Maitri Vihar police station. During the investigation, officers discovered the fraudsters also had ties to cheating schemes in Haryana, where they had posed as high‑level officials too.
Police seized several forged letters and other documents. They urge anyone who thinks they’ve been scammed by these fraudsters to report it at their nearest police station. Victims can also file a complaint online or by calling 100.
With the arrest, Bhubaneswar police aim to prevent further impersonation scams involving the Ministry of Home Affairs and other government bodies.
