Two more Maoists charge sheeted by NIA in 2023 Wayanad KDFC office attack case
In a major update on the 2023 Maoist attack in Kerala, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against two more suspects. This comes after the violent raid on the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) office in Wayanad, where armed Maoists caused chaos.
The NIA submitted a supplementary chargesheet in the Ernakulam Special Court, naming Santhosh Kumar A (also known as Raja) and H.S. Ravindra (aliases include Kottehonda Ravi and Manoj). They face charges under key laws like the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Arms Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and Kerala Forest Act of 1961.
Earlier, the NIA had charged three others—C.P. Moideen, Manoj P.M., and P.K. Soman—in the same case (RC-03/2024/NIA/KOC). All five are linked to the banned CPI (Maoist) terror group and were arrested by the NIA after it took over from Thalapuzha police in October 2023.
What happened? On September 28, 2023, these five Maoists, armed with deadly weapons, broke into the KFDC office in Wayanad. They shouted slogans, held the manager hostage, threatened staff at gunpoint, wrecked public property, and stuck up CPI (Maoist) posters everywhere. It was a clear bid to spread fear and push their anti-national agenda.
NIA investigations reveal they were part of the group’s Military Wing, the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). They even formed a local squad called Kabani Dalam in Wayanad’s forests to carry out terror acts and shake up the government.
The probe is still ongoing, as NIA digs deeper into the CPI (Maoist) network in Kerala. This case highlights the ongoing fight against Maoist violence in the region.
