In Chennai on Sunday, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin slammed the BJP‑led central government for what he called “manipuling democracy.”
He said the ruling party is using the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists to remove people who might vote against them, while keeping those who would favour the BJP. “They’re cleaning up the rolls just in time for elections,” Stalin told reporters after kicking off the MRT1 Chargebee Chennai Runs 2025 marathon from Napier Bridge.
Udhayanidhi added that similar problems were already seen in Bihar, and he urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to hold an all‑party meeting on the issue. “We’ll listen to every party before deciding,” he said, stressing that the state government is ready to address the irregularities.
When asked about internal politics in the AIADMK, Stalin declined to speak in detail. He jokingly referred to Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s role as the party’s permanent General Secretary, hinting at the opposition’s internal struggles.
Shifting to local matters, the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development highlighted Chennai’s monsoon‑preparedness effort. “Road repairs and flood‑control projects are underway across districts to keep drainage smooth and traffic flowing,” he explained.
Stalin also addressed a recent letter from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to the District Governor’s Police (DGP). He said the concerned minister has already responded and that the state is ready to cooperate with any legal inquiries.
Finally, he commented briefly on actor Ajith Kumar’s remarks about the Karur stampede tragedy. “The Chief Minister has spoken. The CBI investigation is ongoing, and I don’t have anything more to add,” he said. “Ajith’s views are personal, and I respect that.”
