At a packed rally in Erode East on Friday, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) fired back at Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, calling him “a political upstart who knows neither history nor responsibility.”
EPS, who is leading a state‑wide tour dubbed Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom, asked the crowd, “Who is Udhayanidhi? He’s Karunanidhi’s grandson and Stalin’s son. Beyond that, what has he done for the DMK?” He added that Udhayanidhi “talks without understanding politics or public life.”
The comments came after Udhayanidhi repeatedly said that the AIADMK is “the BJP’s slave” and that the party’s office now sits at Amit Shah’s house. EPS cut to the chase. “I’ll buy you a new pair of spectacles if you can’t see,” he joked, pointing out that the AIADMK office remains in Royapettah. He told the crowd that Udhayanidhi and his father had tried to damage that office, but the AIADMK “smashed those seals” and reclaimed it.
EPS also reminded the audience that former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa once saved the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, during sharp feuds between Karunanidhi and Vaiko. “We’re not a vindictive party like yours,” he said, urging the crowd to remember the DMK’s heritage.
Turning to recent tragedy, EPS blasted Udhayanidhi’s handling of the Karur stampede that killed 41 people. “He paid a short visit and left, then went back to his holiday schedule instead of staying to help with relief and rehabilitation.” He argued that Udhayanidhi had no moral right or political experience to criticize the AIADMK.
“If you want to debate, talk about what we actually did while in power,” EPS urged. “If you spot our shortcomings, point them out, and I’ll respond. But you’re just repeating, like a broken record, that ‘EPS is the BJP’s slave.’ Either you don’t think before you speak or you simply don’t know politics.”
