Under Nirmal Gujarat 2.0, door-to-door garbage collection drive launched in 71 villages of Jamnagar

Jamnagar Municipal Corporation has rolled out a new door‑to‑door garbage pickup service in 71 villages, bolstering the state’s effort to keep rural Gujarat clean.

The pilot began in 35 villages and was expanded after it received a warm response from local residents. Every morning, 33 GPS‑equipped trucks drive through the villages, picking up wet and dry waste right from households.

“We used to dump waste in the fields or travel far to find a bin,” says Bhavnaben Goswami of Naranpur village. “Now a truck comes daily, and we just toss the garbage into it.” Geetaben Makwana from Naranpar adds, “The tractor’s arrival has made waste disposal so much easier. Thank you to the Gujarat government.”

According to Hitendra Singh Jadeja of Jamnagar Taluka Panchayat, 50,545 families (about 234,831 people) now benefit from the service. The trucks, monitored online by municipal staff, rely on GPS for efficient routing, ensuring regular pick‑ups.

This project is part of the Nirmal Gujarat 2.0 campaign launched by the state government last year. The initiative focuses on systematic garbage collection across urban and rural areas, with municipalities receiving Rs 2,084 crore in funding to support clean‑up efforts. The Jamnagar campaign exemplifies the government’s commitment to a cleaner, healthier Gujarat.
