Mumbai Cricket Association to hold elections on Nov 12

Mumbai, Oct 9 – The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has set a new election date for November 12, moving the vote from its original October 23 spot to avoid clashing with the festive season. The election will decide new office‑bearers, Apex Council members and the board that runs the T20 Mumbai League.

J. S. Saharia, a former Chief Secretary and State Election Commissioner of Maharashtra, will once again serve as the Electoral Officer, according to the Apex Council’s decision.

Ajinkya Naik, now 37, was installed as MCA president last July after the sudden death of Amol Kale. Naik won a clear victory over vice‑president Sanjay Naik, who had backing from the Mumbai BJP chief and BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar. Naik secured 221 votes to Sanjay’s 114, making the contest decisive.

During the same council meeting, the MCA confirmed plans to put a life‑size statue of ex‑India captain Dilip Vengsarkar at Wankhede Stadium. Vengsarkar, a former vice‑president of the MCA and holder of the club’s Lifetime Achievement Award, will join the current statues of Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar on the field.

The association is also launching cricket academies across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to give young talent world‑class training and facilities.

In August, the MCA opened the Sharad Pawar Museum inside Wankhede Stadium, celebrating Mumbai’s historic contribution to Indian and global cricket.
