Indian men’s futsal team suffer defeat against Lebanon in preparatory friendly

India’s men’s futsal team faced a tough challenge in their first friendly match against Lebanon, losing 2-7 in Beirut. This game was part of their build-up to the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers, set to kick off later this month.

The action unfolded at the Al Sadaka Sporting Complex in Lebanon’s capital. For India, it was a learning experience against a much stronger opponent—Lebanon ranks 81 spots higher in the FIFA Men’s Futsal Rankings. The Indian side, still chasing their first international win, trailed 0-4 at halftime.

Lebanon struck early with goals from Mario Abou Jaoude (5th minute), Hassan Maatouk (11th), Steve Koukezian (14th), and Majd Hamouch (17th). After the break, Koukezian (27th) and Maatouk (29th) piled on two more. India fought back with a goal from debutant Seaon DSouza in the 31st minute, but Lebanon responded through Mohamad Osman (36th). Mahip Adhikari, another newcomer, scored India’s second goal in the 38th minute for a late consolation.

Under Iranian coach Reza Kordi, the Futsal Tigers showed promise from their young players. They have one more friendly against Lebanon on September 15 at the same venue. Right after, the team heads to Kuwait for the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers. In Group A, India will take on hosts Kuwait on September 20, Australia on September 22, and Mongolia on September 24.

Fans are rooting for the Indian futsal team to gain momentum and shine in the qualifiers. Stay tuned for updates on their journey!
