Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – On the third anniversary of the former defence minister and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s death, the state’s current chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, honored the late leader in a public tribute.

Yogi Adityanath posted a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter) in Hindi, calling Mulayam “Netaji” and recalling his legacy as founder of the Samajwadi Party. The post echoed the respect many still feel for the man who served the state and the nation for decades.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, 82, founded the Samajwadi Party in the early 1980s. He won ten seats in the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly and seven in the Lok Sabha over his long political career. In 2023, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, awarded him a Padma Vibhushan after his death in 2022.

Earlier today, Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament Ram Gopal Yadav highlighted Mulayam’s impact during a media briefing. He praised “Netaji” for never refusing help to anyone, for championing the poor, and for building the party into India’s third‑largest political force. Ram Gopal echoed the devotion of Mulayam’s supporters, who pledged to follow his footsteps.

The Samajwadi Party also paid tribute on X, posting a respectful note about Mulayam’s contributions as a defence minister and chief minister, and how he helped the marginalized.

During a press conference on Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary, SP President Akhilesh Yadav spoke about the joint efforts of the party and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to fight communal politics in Uttar Pradesh. He noted that Mulayam and Kanshi Ram both advanced the political dignity of the oppressed, helping Kanshi Ram become an MP from Etawah.

These moments remind voters across Uttar Pradesh, and beyond, of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s lasting influence on Indian politics and social justice.
