In Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, police injured and arrested a wanted criminal during a tense shootout late Monday night. The suspect, Sugriva Kushwaha, faces charges in animal smuggling cases and under the Gangster Act, according to local records.
Officers from the Chaurakhas police station, along with the SWAT team and Patharwa police, acted on a tip that Kushwaha was hiding out near the Ghorakhat bridge. They set up a checkpoint to check vehicles in the area. When they tried to stop a biker, he pulled out a gun and fired at them. Police fired back, hitting him in the leg. They quickly took him into custody right there.
From Kushwaha, who was wanted in case number 299/2025 at Tamkuhiraj police station with a ₹25,000 reward on his head, officers recovered a pistol, cartridges, a motorcycle without license plates, and ₹630 in cash. He’s now getting treatment at a hospital under police watch. Authorities have filed a new case against him, and the operation was led by Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar, Additional SP Niveshak Katiyar, and Circle Officer Rakesh Pratap Singh.
In a separate crackdown, Uttar Pradesh’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (UP ATS) has exposed a scam where fraudsters collected millions in fake donations pretending to help Gaza war victims. The team arrested three men—Mohammad Ayan, Zaid Notiyar, and Abu Sufian—from Bhiwandi in Maharashtra.
ADG Law and Order Amitabh Yash explained that the suspects ran a crowdfunding scheme on Instagram and WhatsApp. They used emotional videos and messages about children and women hurt in the Gaza conflict to trick people into donating. But instead of sending the money to those in need, the trio pocketed it through their UPI accounts.
After a detailed probe, UP ATS registered a case against the three at their Lucknow station. Officers nabbed them on September 20 in Bhiwandi and got court approval for transit remand. The accused will soon head to Lucknow for deeper questioning into this Gaza donation fraud.
