UP’s traders, consumers to gain most from GST reforms: CM Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised recent GST rate cuts on Saturday, saying they deliver big wins for consumers, traders, and business owners across the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area on Wednesday, Yogi highlighted how these GST reforms ease the burden on everyday people while boosting the market and opening up new job opportunities. As India’s biggest consumer state, Uttar Pradesh sees the most gains from these changes, he added.
Yogi pointed to specific relief measures that make life easier. For starters, notebooks, pencils, and other school supplies now face zero GST. Most household essentials fall into the 0% or 5% tax bracket, and 33 critical life-saving medicines are completely GST-free.
These tweaks are sparking more spending, which ramps up production and helps traders thrive, Yogi explained. Young people stand to benefit from fresh employment chances, and shoppers get timely relief heading into the festive season.
On the economic front, Yogi shared impressive numbers. Since GST rolled out, national collections have jumped from 7 lakh crore rupees to 22 lakh crore rupees. In Uttar Pradesh alone, they’ve more than doubled—from 49,000 crore rupees to over 1.15 lakh crore rupees—showing how these reforms fuel growth and fight inflation.
Before the press event at Universal Booksellers, Yogi chatted with shoppers and shopkeepers in the bustling Hazratganj market. He handed out pamphlets and banners explaining the GST benefits, connecting directly with the community.
Traders and consumers there thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for these game-changing steps. Yogi wrapped up by calling the reforms a key move to strengthen India’s economy and shield people from rising prices.
