Formula 1: Elkann tells Hamilton, Leclerc to ‘focus on driving and talk less’ after Ferrari’s Brazilian GP disaster

Ferrari boss John Elkann fired a sharp warning at Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc after the team’s double retirement at the Brazilian Grand Prix pushed the Scuderia down to fourth in the constructor standings – their worst result so far in 2025.

Elkann told Sky Sports that “Brazil was a huge disappointment.” He praised the pit‑crew and engineers, saying they were “winning the championship” with their work, but added that the drivers need to “focus on driving and talk less.” “There are still important races ahead,” he said. “Getting a second place is not impossible.”

Lewis Hamilton, who joined Ferrari on a multi‑year deal this season, struggled through a tough weekend. He qualified 13th, then stalled at the back after colliding with Franco Colapinto and retired when the damage made his car un‑race‑worthy. A five‑second penalty also pushed him further down the order, and he slammed the stewards as a “complete joke.”

“It’s a nightmare,” Hamilton admitted. “The dream of driving for an amazing team turns into the nightmare of bad results. I’m trying to stay positive, but it’s tough.” He added that he still believes the future could bring better results after this rough start.

Charles Leclerc, still locked in a seven‑podium season, was also hit by drama. He was forced out of the race in Sao Paulo after a mechanical failure that followed a crash between Oscar Piastri and Kimi Antonelli. Despite the setback, Leclerc remains Ferrari’s top contender, trailing Hamilton by 66 points.

Elkann’s message is clear: the team needs to clinch performance in the next races. With only three events left, the stakes are high. The next challenge is the Las Vegas Grand Prix from 20 to 22 November, where both drivers will aim to bounce back and keep the championship fight alive.

For Ferrari, every lap counts, and the pressure is on to finish the season on a high note before the next chapter begins.
