Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath kicked off Sharadiya Navratri celebrations by offering prayers at the historic Maa Pateshwari Devi temple in Balrampur district’s Tulsipur area on Sunday morning.
This temple, also called Devi Patan, ranks among the revered 51 Shakti Peethas dedicated to Goddess Durga, drawing devotees from across India for its spiritual significance.
Just a day earlier, as Dussehra festivities approach, Yogi Adityanath cracked down on potential troublemakers. He urged authorities to take firm steps against anyone stirring chaos during the festivals. “Dussehra stands for victory over evil and terror—it’s the perfect moment to act,” he told officials. He stressed top-notch security for Durga Puja events and the dramatic Ravana Dahan rituals, where effigies of the demon king go up in flames.
To keep things safe, Yogi directed that Durga idols stay below safe heights to avoid accidents. He also pushed for backup plans for idol immersions in rivers or ponds. “We won’t let miscreants get away with anything,” he added. “Our actions will stop them from even dreaming of causing trouble next time.”
The chief minister didn’t stop there. He ordered police teams to make unannounced checks on slaughterhouses to enforce hygiene and legal standards. He demanded smooth traffic flow with zero jams around festival spots and beefed-up security everywhere. District leaders must focus on key visits from ministers and public officials, and all core group meetings need updates straight to his office.
Sharadiya Navratri brings alive the power of the divine feminine through nine vibrant nights of worship in the Hindu month of Ashwin. Fans of Goddess Durga fast, sing bhajans, and dance to Garba and Dandiya beats, filling the air with joy and devotion. Each day honors a unique form of the goddess, highlighting her strength, kindness, and smarts.
On the festival’s seventh night, followers pay homage to Maa Kaalratri, Durga’s fierce warrior side. Known as the slayer of demons, ghosts, and bad vibes, she lights up lives by chasing away darkness and fear.
