Dehradun, Nov 10 – The Udyamshala Yojana, a scheme launched years ago to spark local business ventures, is gaining momentum in Devbhoomi and other parts of Uttarakhand. It offers thousands of youngsters and middle‑class families a chance to start their own businesses right in their villages.
The scheme, run by the Rural Development Department (REAP), focuses on small‑scale industries in rural towns like Bageshwar. In Bageshwar district, the program has helped local youth and women launch a variety of shops and factories, from food‑processing units to handicraft workshops. “The support is creating real jobs and keeping people in their communities,” says Udyamshala manager Vinod.
The department has organized a one‑day workshop where experts teach marketing and branding skills. “We want entrepreneurs to know how to sell their products and reach buyers,” Vinod added. He also highlighted a new buyers‑sellers meet in Rishikesh, which pulls customers from across districts to buy local goods.
State Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami’s initiative is framed as a new path to mountain development. “The program builds confidence among the youth and stops people from leaving their homes for job opportunities elsewhere,” Dhami said. It is also part of the Mukhyamantri Udyamshala Yojana (MUY), a broader effort to support rural entrepreneurs, women, and community organisations at every stage of their journey.
With ongoing training, marketing support, and a growing network of buyers, the Udyamshala Yojana is turning local skills into sustainable businesses and turning rural villages into thriving, self‑employed communities.
