The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) announced on Monday that the popular pilgrimage, the Vaishno Devi Yatra, will be paused for a few days because of a bad weather alert from the India Meteorological Department.

Pilgrims heading from Katra to the shrine will see the trek halted from October 5 through October 7, 2025. The board says the route should reopen on October 8 once the skies clear.

The warning follows a previous disaster that cut the Yatra short. On August 26, heavy rain triggered a landslide near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari—about halfway on the 12‑kilometer trek—killing 34 people and injuring many others. The chance of more bad weather prompted the board’s decision to delay the Yatra again, until conditions improve.

For anyone planning to visit the revered Vaishno Devi shrine this fall, keep an eye on local weather updates and the official board announcements. The pilgrimage is expected to resume on October 8, giving travelers a chance to enjoy the route in safer conditions.
