Akshaye Khanna’s look as Asura guru Shukracharya in Puja Kolluru’s ‘Mahakali’ released!
Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna steps into the world of Telugu cinema with a powerful role in the upcoming film Mahakali. On Tuesday, the makers revealed his first look as the mythical Asura guru Shukracharya, sparking excitement among fans of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU).
Director Prasanth Varma, who serves as showrunner for Mahakali, shared the striking image on social media. "In the shadows of gods, rose the brightest flame of rebellion," he wrote. In the photo, Khanna transforms into the legendary Shukracharya from Hindu mythology. He sports a flowing silver beard, simple ascetic robes, and intense, glowing eyes that hint at deep wisdom and hidden strength. As the guru to the Asuras (demons), Shukracharya masters ancient knowledge like Sanatana Vidya and the life-restoring Mrita-Sanjivani Mantra. His character balances spiritual guidance with clever strategies that could tip the scales between gods and demons.
The dramatic scene shows him standing tall before a massive mountain fortress, surrounded by sheer cliffs. Dark storm clouds loom overhead, while flames flicker from old altars, blending calm meditation with raw power. It’s a fresh take on the revered figure that promises to captivate audiences.
Helmed by director Puja Kolluru, Mahakali continues the PVCU story that kicked off with the hit Pan-India blockbuster Hanu-Man. This film marks Khanna’s big entry into Telugu movies and stands out as the universe’s first superhero tale centered on a female lead—an invincible warrior who protects the good and battles evil.
RKD Studios, led by producers RK Duggal and Riwaz Ramesh Duggal, backs the project. Prasanth Varma’s creative vision pairs perfectly with Puja Kolluru’s direction, setting up what looks like an epic addition to the PVCU that superhero fans have eagerly awaited.
The announcement echoes last year’s big reveal during Navratri. Back then, Prasanth Varma teased, "Together with @RKDStudios, we proudly present the tale of an invincible warrior… From the universe of #HanuMan, prepare for the rise of #MAHAKALI. Directed by @PujaKolluru."
