Troops of the Border Security Force’s 32 Battalion, posted at the Horandipur Border Outpost on the India‑Bangladesh frontier in West Bengal, nabbed a smuggler hoarding gold last night.
Relying on crisp intelligence, the soldiers caught the suspect in the act and seized 20 gold biscuits that weighed a total of 2,332.66 grams—worth about ₹2.82 crore.
The warning arrived on the night of October 11 from reliable sources who said a man from Muslimpara village was planning to slip gold into India via the Horandipur area. The jawans on duty went into high alert and set a trap in a dense bamboo grove. At 6 am, they spotted a figure moving carefully behind the trees and promptly surrounded him. After searching his belongings, they opened a plastic packet that revealed the 20 gold biscuits. The smuggler was taken into custody on the spot and brought back to the outpost for questioning.
Local authorities have taken the seized gold and the arresting party to the next step in legal action. This operation underscores the firm stance of India’s border security forces against cross‑border smuggling.
