Kolkata – The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has just posted a list of more than 20,000 candidates who will be called for interviews for teaching jobs in the state’s schools. The list, released late Saturday night, covers positions for classes 11 and 12, which were selected after the State Level Selection Test (SLST) held in September.
The next step is a document‑verification process that will start on November 18. Those who have already passed the SLST exam but did not make the interview cut are being asked to stay patient and trust the commission’s process.
State Education Minister Bratya Basu praised the WBSSC for keeping the recruitment on schedule, especially after a Supreme Court order that annulled earlier hiring decisions. In a post on X, he said the preliminary interview list would be made public on the WBSSC website and that the full recruitment should finish by December. “We are committed to a transparent, responsible hiring process,” Basu added, urging job seekers to maintain faith.
While the interview list for classes 11 and 12 is out, the commission will publish a separate list for classes 9 and 10 later. The recent SLST was a two‑round test launched after nine years, aiming to fill 35,726 teaching posts—23,212 for classes 9‑10 and 12,514 for classes 11‑12. The exam comes in the wake of a teacher‑recruitment scandal that shook West Bengal politics and led the Supreme Court, in April, to void the appointments of about 26,000 teachers and support staff from the 2016 selection round.
The fresh test follows a Supreme Court mandate that barred previous, ineligible candidates from reappearing, ensuring the integrity of the state’s new teaching workforce.
