We must adopt future-ready approach to national security: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flew into Jaisalmer on October 24 to join the Army Commanders’ Conference and push the forces toward a “future‑ready” stance. He told soldiers in the desert region that India must plan both long‑term and short‑term when it comes to national security in a world that is changing fast.

During his speech, Singh highlighted the importance of a flexible security framework that can respond to shifting geopolitical challenges. He praised the Armed Forces for their steady work on the front line, for helping civilians during crises, and for the nation‑building role they play across all domains—border defence, diplomacy, and public service.

High‑ranking Army officers briefed him on the current border situation and the new threat of Grey‑Zone Warfare, a grey‑area attack that blends conventional and unconventional tactics. The conference set a roadmap called Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation (JAI) to keep the Army modern and adaptable.

While at the conference, Singh also opened a special cactus garden named “Shaurya Van.” The garden showcases desert plants and reminds visitors of India’s ecological heritage.

Singh paid tribute at the Jaisalmer War Museum, honoring those who died for the country. He then visited troops in a traditional “Barakhana” ceremony, praising their dedication and boosting their morale.

Alongside Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, he toured the forward posts of Tanot and Laungewala. At the historic Laungewala Yudh Sthal, he laid a wreath and inaugurated the “Chandpuri Hall,” a multimedia room that remembers Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, the hero of the 1971 Battle of Laungewala. Battle veterans were also honoured during the event.

The defence chief also reviewed new infrastructure projects that will make Laungewala a symbol of national pride. He watched a Capability Demonstration Exercise where the new Bhairav Battalion and Ashni Platoon showed off cutting‑edge technologies and integrated battlefield skills.

Singh launched several new initiatives right then. He opened Edge Data Centres for the Konark and Fire & Fury Corps, introduced an Equipment Helpline, launched the Sainik Yatri Mita App for soldiers’ travel needs, and revealed a Defence Millet Dishes Compendium to promote healthy military cuisine.

He reiterated that India’s defence strategy will keep its key pillars—defence diplomacy, self‑reliance, information warfare, infrastructure, and force modernisation—at the core of a future‑ready army.
