The Karnataka BJP president, MLA Vijayendra, called out the state government for rushing a caste census without proper planning. The announcement came during a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru, on Friday.
Vijayendra said even teachers who have been hired as enumerators are having trouble because the census plans were unclear. He added that forcing schools to give holidays for the census is hurting students — especially those in government schools in rural areas. “Every school day matters for these kids,” he pointed out.
The leader also slammed the first Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) meeting. “No agenda was shared with legislators,” he said. “The meeting is being run in secrecy, and there is no transparency.” He questioned why the government is announcing December elections without clear plans about how many officials will be appointed or where infrastructure improvements will happen.
Roads in Bengaluru are another point of frustration. Vijayendra noted that citizens are left to navigate potholes while Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is reportedly busy counting them near the Prime Minister’s residence. “Why talk about London and the Prime Minister when Bengaluru’s roads are still broken?” he asked. “People want fixes now, not empty promises.”
Farmers too are feeling ignored. Heavy rains have worsened conditions in North Karnataka, yet Agriculture and Revenue ministers have not visited the affected areas. Vijayendra criticised this lack of attention, saying that if ministers can’t visit farmers in crisis, they should reconsider their roles. He highlighted visits his team made to flood-hit districts such as Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, and Yadgir, urging the government to act quickly on farmer compensation. The promised 10‑day relief from Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has not been delivered, he added.
The BJP’s concerns extend to local industry issues as well. Vijayendra mentioned ongoing confusion over the MySugar factory in Mandya and suggested that BJP members might skip the upcoming GBA meeting because the agenda was never shared. He accused the ruling party of prioritising internal politics and “patching over” problems rather than serving the public, all while a real estate mafia is allegedly influencing decisions.
When asked about the broader political climate, Vijayendra referred to reactions from Congress ministers and lawmakers. He said that the current developments within the ruling party seem unstable, and many expected that the situation will settle after the upcoming Bihar elections.
Overall, BJP’s criticism focuses on rushed decisions, lack of transparency, students’ education disruptions, road maintenance delays, and neglect of farmers during flooding. The party demands clearer plans, swift action and accountability from the Karnataka government.
