Patna, Nov 28 (‑LatestNewsX) – On Friday, the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme sent 10 k rupees to the bank accounts of 1 million women across Bihar.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took part in the ceremony and disbursed the money directly via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
A special event was held at the CM’s household, where Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, senior officials, and representatives from several departments were present.
Official estimates show that about 950,000 rural women and 50,000 urban women benefited, all of whom are members of Jeevika self‑help groups that previously provided training and support for self‑employment.
The government reports that roughly 1.5 crore women have so far received the 10 k rupee assistance each under this initiative.
Enrollment for the scheme unfolded in two waves: urban applicants registered online, while rural applicants completed both offline and online forms at local Panchayat levels.
Priority was given to women already involved in Jeevika activities.
Authorities claim the program is key to advancing women’s economic independence, allowing them to start micro‑businesses and strengthen self‑reliance through group efforts.
The 10 k rupee grant is intended to boost women’s active participation in the economy.
After being announced on August 29, the scheme was rolled out within a month.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the initiative on September 26, handing out the first instalment to 7.5 million women.
Nitish Kumar later released the second instalment on October 3, disbursing the funds to 2.5 million additional beneficiaries.
Opposition parties accused the government of distributing cash grants during the Model Code of Conduct period for the Bihar Assembly elections, suggesting it was an attempt to sway voters.
Opposition leaders claimed the scheme violated the Model Code of Conduct.
