In New Delhi on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took the floor of the Lok Sabha to fire back at the Congress, accusing the opposition of losing elections because of its resistance to a series of Modi‑era milestones—particularly the building of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
“You opposed the abrogation of Article 370, you opposed the CAA, you opposed the abolition of triple talaq, you opposed surgical strikes, and above all, you opposed the Ram Mandir. That is exactly why the people rejected you again and again,” he said, as NDA MPs thumped their desks in support.
Shah warned that the Congress’s current fight against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and the One Nation One Election (ONOE) agenda will only push the party further into isolation.
“Continue opposing SIR, and you will not just remain decimated in Bihar – you will be wiped out in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu too in the coming elections,” he predicted.
The Home Minister attributed Narendra Modi’s landslide victories to real welfare initiatives rather than any electoral trickery.
“Modi ji ensured free ration, gas cylinders, tap water and electricity to 60 crore people and built world‑class infrastructure. The public is rewarding performance with votes. Janata is Ishwar – and you dare to call this mandate ‘vote chori’?” he asked, drawing sharp protests from opposition benches.
Labeling the debate a ‘golden opportunity’, Shah said the government had fully exposed the “one‑sided lies” the Congress is spreading about the Election Commission’s voter list purification drive.
“Every false narrative you built around SIR has been demolished today on the floor of this House,” he asserted.
His vigorous rebuttal came amid the ongoing Winter Session clashes over electoral reform, with critics claiming the Centre’s use of SIR would marginalise vulnerable groups ahead of key state elections.
Shah framed SIR as a necessary measure to safeguard electoral integrity and national security, vowing that the NDA would proceed undeterred.
After his address, the house was adjourned for the day.
