Punjab Police ramps up its crackdown on drugs, arresting 99 smugglers in massive statewide raids on Saturday. This marks the 196th day of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s relentless “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign to wipe out the drug menace from Punjab.
In a big push, police teams swooped down on 383 locations across the state, filing 77 FIRs and nabbing the suspects red-handed. So far, in these 196 days, they’ve arrested a whopping 29,387 drug smugglers—a clear sign that the fight against drugs in Punjab is gaining serious momentum.
The raids turned up quite a haul: 2.5 kg of heroin, 1.2 kg of opium, 5 kg of ganja, 65 kg of poppy husk, 1,108 intoxicant tablets or capsules, and Rs 6,770 in drug money from the arrested peddlers.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann isn’t holding back. He’s directed police commissioners, deputy commissioners, and senior superintendents to turn Punjab into a completely drug-free state. To keep things on track, the government formed a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to oversee the anti-drug war.
Over 150 police teams, with more than 1,200 officers led by 76 senior officials, carried out the operations. They also screened 418 suspicious individuals during the day-long drive.
Punjab’s strategy against drugs follows a smart three-pronged approach: Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP). On the de-addiction front, police convinced 51 people to seek rehab and treatment today, helping them break free from addiction.
This ongoing battle shows Punjab’s commitment to a safer, healthier future—stay tuned for more updates on the war on drugs in India.
