Zubeen Garg death: Assam CID issues notice to several individuals, told to appear in 10 days

Assam police are digging deeper into the tragic death of beloved singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore. On Friday, the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sent notices to people who were there during the incident or know details about what happened. These individuals must show up within 10 days to share their statements with investigators.

A 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Special DGP M.P. Gupta, is handling the probe into Zubeen Garg’s death. “The investigation is ongoing,” a senior official told reporters. “We’ve notified everyone linked to the events before his passing, and they need to come forward within 10 days.”

The team kept up their searches on Friday, raiding the home of Shyamkanu Mahanta for the second day in a row. Mahanta organized the North East India Festival. Earlier, police searched the residences of Garg’s manager, Siddhartha Sharma, and musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami. Both men joined the singer on a yacht trip in Singapore on September 19, where the 52-year-old drowned.

Investigators have expanded their look into the case, now questioning members of the Assamese community in Singapore who were on the yacht. Back in Guwahati, the CID office recorded statements from other artists and figures from Assam’s cultural scene.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has promised a full investigation. He said if the SIT’s findings don’t meet public expectations, the state government will push to hand the case over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Garg’s sudden death has left fans across the region heartbroken, fueling calls for a clear and honest look at what went wrong.

In other news, Assam police issued a warning about false social media rumors. They’re dismissing claims of an upcoming internet shutdown in the state. “Mischief-makers are spreading this fake message about internet services getting cut off,” the police said in an advisory. “Don’t believe or share it— we’ll take action against anyone spreading unverified info.”
