Sometimes, good karma really does come full circle. A generous couple from Wales has beaten staggering odds to win a $1 million lottery jackpot for the second time in seven years, an almost unimaginable feat officials say carried odds of more than 24 trillion to one.
Richard Davies, 49, and his wife Faye Stevenson-Davies, 43 — known locally for volunteering with homeless individuals and people living with mental illness — claimed their latest jackpot prize on Tuesday, according to the BBC. Their first big win came back in 2018.
“We knew the odds of it happening again were outrageous,” said Stevenson-Davies, a former nurse who now works as a mental health counselor with the Brecon & District Mind charity. “But we’re proof that if you believe, anything is possible.”
The couple, who live in mid Wales, originally struck gold in June 2018 after winning the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker draw, pocketing £1 million, or about $1.3 million at the time.
Despite their newfound wealth, they kept playing the lottery casually. Davies, a former hairdresser who now volunteers cutting hair at a homeless shelter and works part-time as a delivery driver, said the second win unfolded through a chain of smaller victories.
“It came through a series of four consecutive Lotto draws,” Davies explained. “We matched two numbers and won a free Lucky Dip, which put us into the next draw, and it just kept rolling over until the winning one.”
Even after becoming financially secure, the couple says they have no plans to slow down — especially during the holidays. Davies said he intends to work seven days a week as a courier during the busy delivery season, while Stevenson-Davies plans to continue offering mental health support to her clients, even on Christmas Day.
As for how they’ll spend their latest windfall, the couple is taking their time.
After their first win, they gave generously — buying cars for loved ones, donating a minibus to a local rugby team, and helping friends and family wherever they could.
“It was incredible to be able to make a real difference,” Davies said. “This time, who knows? We’ll enjoy the moment and see where it takes us.”
Lottery operator Allwyn confirmed the astronomical odds of the couple winning twice — first the Millionaire Maker draw and later matching five numbers plus the bonus ball — exceeded 24 trillion to one.
Their story joins a rare list of lottery miracles, including Massachusetts resident Paul Corcoran, who won two $1 million Powerball prizes in a single night after accidentally purchasing an extra ticket earlier this year.
Against all mathematical logic, lightning really did strike twice.
