Erika Kirk reveals she wears husband Charlie’s blood-stained pendant that was ripped from his neck as he died
Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, is holding onto a painful reminder of her husband’s final moments. She now wears the blood-stained St. Michael pendant that Charlie had around his neck when a bullet struck him at a Turning Point USA event in Utah.
The small cross-shaped icon still carries traces of his blood in its crevices. Medics tore it from his body as they fought to stop the bleeding after the shooting less than two weeks ago. Erika, 36 and a mother of two, shared this intimate detail in an interview with the New York Times.
She also opened up about the chaos right after the attack on September 10, 2025, at the Turning Point USA rally. A sheriff warned her not to see Charlie’s body, since the bullet had pierced his neck. But Erika stood firm. “With all due respect, I want to see what they did to my husband,” she told him. At the hospital, she leaned in for one last kiss goodbye.
What she saw broke her heart but also brought a strange comfort. “His eyes were semi-open, and he had this knowing, Mona Lisa-like half-smile,” she recalled. “Like he’d died happy. Like Jesus rescued him. The bullet came, he blinked, and he was in heaven.”
The Charlie Kirk shooting has left a deep mark on the conservative community. Tributes poured in, including a memorial banner on the Heritage Foundation building in Washington, D.C., just days later on September 20.
Life at home has turned into a daily struggle for Erika. She hasn’t washed the towels Charlie used in his last shower—they still smell like him. “To this day, I can’t go into my bedroom,” she said. “I’m rotating where I sleep.”
