Mamata govt trying to keep dead voters in Bengal electoral rolls, claims Suvendu Adhikari

Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, said on Tuesday that the state government appears to be working to keep the names of deceased voters on the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. He claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is trying to stop the deletion of those names so that her party can later “misuse” them in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly polls.

Adhikari posted on social media an audio clip from a booth‑level officer (BLO) in Falta, South 24 Parganas. In the recording, the officer says that senior officials were telling staff not to remove names of dead voters unless a death certificate was supplied. The LatestNewsX has not confirmed whether the clip is authentic.

“The SIR has exposed ominous signals on Mamata Banerjee. She is apparently using her administration to keep dead names on the rolls and to use her peace force to manipulate those votes during the election,” Adhikari remarked. He added that the audio shows how a BLO is being ordered not to delete the names of deceased people, even though families have already signed declarations on the enumeration form. “If the form cannot be uploaded, they are forced to hold it back, so that the deception can happen later. This allegation is serious.”

The BJP leader further alleged that Trinamool Congress supporters are going door‑to‑door, threatening the BLOs by saying no death certificate will be provided. “The game is clear: there is a covert effort to retain dead voters on the list by using BDOs and AROs, with intimidation from goons,” he said.

He concluded by urging people and BLOs not to be fearful. “Help the Election Commission with the SIR work within the law. I will warn the BDOs and AROs, who are loyal to the Trinamool, to be careful; otherwise, consequences will follow. The BJP is watching this closely and will not be silent.”

Finally, Adhikari asked the Election Commission to treat this complaint with gravity, investigate, and take swift action against the BDOs and AROs involved.
