Gavin Newsom cowers to Halle Berry’s jab over ‘devaluing’ women at NYT summit: ‘Just connected with her manager’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that he will put money in next year’s state budget to broaden support for menopause care after the Oscar‑winning actress Halle Berry publicly rebuked him for vetoing two bills aimed at that goal.
During a speech at the New York Times DealBook Summit, Berry accused the term‑limited governor of “probably should not be our next president” because of those vetoes, claiming he was ignoring and “devaluing” women.
When TMZ asked about Berry’s comments, Newsom replied, “Actually, I was just connected with her manager,” adding, “We have the ability to reconcile that, so we’re reconciling,” and “I’ve included it in the budget next year.”
Newsom said Berry’s harsh words came from her not being aware of the governor’s ongoing work on a menopause bill he had refused to sign.
He explained that the team was already making progress and that “they didn’t understand we were already in the process of fixing it, so we’re getting it fixed.”
The legislation Berry championed would have required health plans to offer menopause‑related treatment options and mandated provider training on the topic.
According to a spokesperson for Newsom, the governor’s vetoes were based on concerns that the bill might “unintentionally raise health‑care costs for millions of working women who are already stretched thin.”
The governor’s office confirmed that on January 10, Newsom will propose a plan in the California budget to expand menopause care.
“The Governor remains committed to fixing this issue – and we’ve been doing that work in real time,” a spokesperson told The Post.
Before turning her criticism toward Newsom, Berry said, “At this stage in my life, I have zero f—ks left to give.”
“Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one, but two years in a row,” the “Catwoman” star added. “But that’s OK, because he’s not going to be governor forever, and the way he has overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us, he probably should not be our next president either. Just saying.”
Newsom’s term ends in December 2026, and he confirmed in October that he is considering a 2028 bid for the presidency.
