New Zealand’s leading pacer Kyle Jamieson was ruled out of the three‑match ODI series against England after a left‑side stiffness he felt during a training session at Bay Oval on Saturday. The 30‑year‑old bowler was sent back to Christchurch for further assessment, and the New Zealand Cricket board said he is still on target for the West Indies tour that starts on November 5.
“Because Kyle felt stiffness in his side after bowling today, we didn’t want to gamble at this stage of the summer,” head coach Rob Walter said. “It was best for him to skip this ODI series and focus on getting ready for the Auckland series against the West Indies.”
Walter also said a replacement will be named after the first round of the Ford Trophy, which finishes later today. New Zealand’s squad for the series will feature Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Kane Williamson, and Will Young.
England’s lineup is led by captain Harry Brook with Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, and Luke Wood.
The series opens in Tauranga on Sunday, with the second game in Hamilton on October 29 and the final match in Wellington on November 1. England recently won the T20I series 1‑0, although two games were washed out by rain.
