
Jaipur, Dec 2 (–) – On the second day of the Khelo India University Games 2025 (KIUG) at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, several athletes broke existing meet records. Rahul of Chandigarh University dominated the men’s 20‑km race walk, clocking 1 h 25 min 43 s—surpassing the previous 1 h 26 min 44 s set by Akshdeep Singh of Punjabi University in 2022. In the women’s javelin throw, Deepika from the same university hurled 55.53 m, eclipsing Jyoti’s 53.16 m record from Chaudhary Devi Lal University. In the men’s 400 m hurdles, Ruchir Mori of Swarnim Gujarat Sports University recorded a 51‑second run, bettering Amarnath D’s 51.76‑second time. Finally, Pooja of Lovely Professional University leapt 1.77 m in the high‑jump, beating Gracena Merly’s previous mark by a full metre.
The 2025 edition of KIUG is taking place across seven cities in Rajasthan, drawing 4,448 athletes from 222 universities into 23 medal‑bearing sports. The event is organised by the Sports Authority of India together with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and is hosted by Poornima University.
Other highlights from the day include Surabhi Rao of Chandigarh University capturing gold in the women’s 10 m air‑pistol with a score of 238.9, while Vani Kaushal (Manav Rachna University) and Lakshita (Lovely Professional University) took silver and bronze respectively. In hockey, the men’s final will feature Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya against Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, after both teams secured 2‑0 victories in their semifinals.
Overall, Chandigarh University’s performance has propelled it to 11 golds—including seven in canoe and kayaking—bringing their total to 22. Lovely Professional University’s two golds in athletics keep them in third place with 23 gold medals to date. The games remain a showcase of emerging talent across a wide range of disciplines.
