MP: Congress urges action against IAS officer for objectionable remark over ‘Brahmin girls’

Bhopal, Nov 25 – The Madhya Pradesh Congress denounced IAS officer Santosh Verma for making offensive remarks about Brahmin girls and called on the state government to take action against him.
Verma, who was recently chosen as the provincial president of Anusuchit Jati Evam Janjati Adhikari and Karmachari Sangh (AJAKS)—an organization that advocates for reservation—touted the comments on Sunday.
In a video that quickly went viral, the IAS officer said, “Reservations will continue till a Brahmin donates their daughters to my son or allows her to have a relationship with him,” a statement that has infuriated many, particularly the Brahmin community in Madhya Pradesh.
Responding to the controversy, former Congress minister Mukesh Nayak said on Tuesday, “The IAS officer’s remark is not only objectionable but offensive as well. He has tried to disrupt social harmony and therefore, the state government should take action against him with immediate effect.”
The former minister, who also chairs the party’s media cell, added that Verma’s comments violate the Civil Service (Conduct) Rules, underscoring the need for decisive disciplinary measures.
Congress cadres prohibited protest in Bhopal and other parts of the state, setting Verma’s effigies on fire. Some protesters also used harsh language on camera during the demonstration.
In a separate move, representatives of multiple Brahmin organisations brought a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, demanding punitive action against the officer.
“We demand an immediate FIR against the IAS officer for his highly indecent remarks about Brahmin daughters. If no FIR is registered against him, the entire Brahmin samaj will resort to state‑wide protest,” Pushpendra Mishra, state president of All India Brahmin Samaj, told LatestNewsX.
Verma’s troubles are not new. In 2021‑22 he was accused of forging court orders and a special court judge’s signatures to secure relief in cases against him. After a judge filed a complaint over the alleged forged documents, which were used to facilitate his promotion from the state administrative cadre to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Verma was taken into custody.
