Bhopal, Dec 2 – While Chief Minister Mohan Yadav kicked off a review of his cabinet ministers’ work last week, leaders of the Madhya Pradesh Congress launched a unified attack, claiming that the state’s law‑and‑order situation is steadily worsening. State Congress chief Jitu Patwari headed the criticism, saying the opposition would welcome Yadav’s scrutiny but that the CM should also reassess how his own departments, especially the Home Department, are being run.
Patwari added, “The Chief Minister is handing over a dozen departments, including the Home Affairs Department in the state. The law and order in Madhya Pradesh has collapsed and criminals have no fear of police. Therefore, it would be better if the Chief Minister reviews his own performance.”
Senior Congress MLA and former chief minister Kamal Nath replied that a chief minister ought to routinely evaluate his cabinet, and he accused Madhya Pradesh of topping the nation in crime and corruption. Speaking to reporters at the state assembly, he said, “Madhya Pradesh is now known for crime and corruption, this is the real achievement of the BJP government in past 20 years. The is first on unemployment, atrocities against women and Scheduled Tribes/Scheduled Castes. There is no law and order in Madhya Pradesh.”
Yadav held the first round of reviews in the assembly on Monday, examining the performance of Transport and School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Patel, and Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar. The opposition has repeatedly targeted Yadav—who also oversees the home department—whenever a major crime surfaces.
Sources aware of the political development told LatestNewsX that Yadav had already instructed senior bureaucrats and ministers to prepare for the review meetings. The chief secretary and other senior officials will also attend. After the assembly sessions, two additional days of department‑by‑department meetings will take place in Khajuraho on December 8 and 9, aimed at promoting greater transparency and faster decision‑making.
These performance reviews come as CM Yadav’s government approaches its second‑year milestone, set to complete the two‑year term in the next fortnight.
