2nd Test: India dominates West Indies, reaches 418/4 at Lunch on Day 2

India’s Test team built a strong innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After winning the toss, skipper Shubman Gill led India to a huge 418 runs for 4 wickets in 110 overs after the first session of Day 2.

Gill and right‑hander Nitish Kumar Reddy started a furious counter‑attack following the fall of the third wicket. Together, they added 91 runs in just 103 balls, pushing India past the 350‑run mark well before the end of the 97th over. Gill’s first half‑century came on 95 balls, and by 100 overs the score read 371/3, with Gill on 50 and Reddy on 20.

India’s pace bowlers were dismissed quickly. They lost their fourth wicket at 416 when Reddy was taken for 43 off 54 deliveries. The pair’s partnership had helped the team reach 400 in the 105th over. After Reddy’s wicket, wicketkeeper‑batter Dhruv Jurel came in and the innings finished the first session at 418/4.

West Indies’ bowlers, led by vice‑captain Jomel Warrican, had taken three wickets (3/81) and also forced a run‑out. The home side’s opposition team had two fresh players in the lineup, replacing Brandon King and Johann Layne with Tevim Imlach and Anderson Phillip.

Earlier in the match, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a stylish 175, helping India reach 318/2 at stumps on Day 1. Gill still remained unbeaten at 20, and the team’s aggressive play gave them a comfortable lead.
