India’s Test team opened the match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium with a‑for‑a‑bust start. Captained by Shubman Gill, the Indians chose to bat after winning the toss on a slow, drying pitch. With 11,000 fans watching, Delhi’s crowd roar shifted from “Kohli, Kohli” to “Jaiswal, Jaiswal” by lunch.

Yashasvi Jaiswal never looked back. He knocked out a brilliant 173 not out, the highest score of the day and his fifth century in just a few Tests. He built a steady 58‑run partnership with KL Rahul, then joined B Sai Sudharsan in a massive 193‑run stand. Sudharsan, fresh to Test cricket, made a solid 87 and became the team’s new power‑hitter.

The innings unfolded with Jaiswal eating the bad balls early, then attacking the good ones with ease. He crossed 100 in the afternoon session after a calm start, and then passed 150 before the day closed. His pace control was on point: early tempo, then a spurt of boundaries when the bowlers slipped. Jaiswal’s signature straight drive and sharp cuts kept the scoreboard moving.

Across the field, the West Indies bowlers were disciplined. No extras conceded, and they delivered at a brisk over‑rate. But Wari‑Can’s 2‑60 was the only real threat; the rest of the bowlers couldn’t claim a wicket.

India went to 318 for two after 90 overs. With their steady partnership, the team strengthened its platform for the second day, leaving the West Indies with a tall order. Shubman Gill himself stayed in the game, finishing on 20 not out with a few fabulous sweep shots.

Key moments:
– Jaiswal’s 173* and Sudharsan’s 87 set India on track.
– West Indies’ bowlers kept a tidy record, but wickets stayed scarce.
– The crowd’s cheers mirrored India’s dominance, turning the stadium into a roaring temple of cricket.

Final scores: India 318/2 in 90 overs. (Yashasvi Jaiswal 173 not out, B Sai Sudharsan 87). West Indies can regroup and chase back on Day 2.
