Doha, Nov. 14 – Teen star Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a record‑breaking 144 off just 42 balls to give India A a 148‑run win over the UAE in the opener of the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025, played in Doha on Friday.
India A’s opening partnership exploded into a massive 297 for 4, the joint‑fifth highest score in men’s T20 cricket. Suryavanshi’s fearless hitting – 11 fours, 15 sixes – saw him finish with a blistering strike rate of 342.85, the fourth‑highest ever for a T20 century.
The 14‑year‑old left‑hander reached his run‑topping milestone in just 32 balls, making him the second‑fastest Indian to score a T20 hundred, behind Rishabh Pant’s 2018 knock. His 144 is also the joint‑fifth fastest century ever in T20 history and makes Suryavanshi the youngest player ever to score a ton for a national representative side at senior level, beating Mushfiqur Rahim’s record set in 2005.
After a first‑ball duck, the “sensation” rolled on, taking a 17‑ball fifty and then a 163‑run partnership with Naman Dhir. When Suryavanshi was dismissed in the 13th over, captain Jitesh Sharma kept the tempo, finishing with an unbeaten 83 off 32 balls. The two stood on the brink of crossing the 300‑run mark, but a modest final over capped the score at 297/4, matching India’s 2024 total against Bangladesh – one of the highest totals ever in the format.
The UAE could not chase the huge target. Their chase stalled early, with only Sohaib Khan fighting back through a gritty 63 off 41. UAE finished 149/7, well short of the required 298. India A’s bowlers were led by Gurjapneet Singh, who took 3 for 18.
