Chennai, Nov 30 (LatestNewsX) – It’s still uncertain whether Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay will be allowed to stage his planned roadshow on December 5 in Puducherry.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said the government will only decide after consulting the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP). Vijay’s statewide tour was stopped earlier when the Karur stampede in October left 41 people dead.
When Vijay tried to restart his campaign in Salem, the Tamil Nadu Police refused to grant permission and told him he must apply at least a month ahead for any large gathering. The team then shifted focus to Puducherry.
On November 26, TRK representatives filed a petition at the Puducherry DGP’s office seeking approval for the December 5 event. They also presented a formal request to CM Rangasamy in person, but the police did not reply for three days.
Subsequently, TRK General Secretary Anand and former MLA Saminathan went to the police headquarters to speak with the DGP. They learned that the DGP was away in New Delhi for a police conference and would likely return only on December 1, leaving no senior officers available.
Amid the delay, rumours began that the permission had been denied. Police officials clarified that “no order has been issued on the petition so far,” dismissing speculation about a rejection.
To address mounting media questions, CM Rangasamy issued a statement saying, “The petition submitted by Vijay’s team will be examined. After consultations with the Chief Secretary and the DGP, a decision will be taken.” He added that public safety, anticipated crowd size, and law‑and‑order implications would shape the outcome.
Vijay’s roadshow has attracted a lot of attention because it would be his first major political outreach in Puducherry since launching the Victory Party. With the DGP expected to be back on December 1, an official decision on permission is likely in the next few days. The actor‑politician’s supporters are eagerly awaiting clarity, while the administration must weigh security needs against political fairness for this high‑profile event.
