A.J. Brown’s quiet start in Philadelphia has sparked speculation that the Eagles might move the No. 2 slot receiver before the November 4 trade deadline. NFL Network reported Sunday that the club is “extremely unlikely” to trade Brown, a three‑time Pro Bowler who signed a $96 million, three‑year extension last year that keeps him in the city through 2029.
Brown has logged just 14 catches for 151 yards in the first four games—an average of 10.8 yards per catch—and one touchdown. The numbers are the lowest of his career and have slowed a season that began with the Eagles losing their first two games. He apologized on social media last week for a cryptic post that expressed frustration with his role in the offense. “I want the ball when the game matters,” he told reporters in Philadelphia, adding that he loves playing in the city and wants to help the team succeed.
The team’s offense, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, has struggled overall. Hurts averages 152.3 passing yards per game and has thrown five touchdown passes in four contests, while the Eagles rank 30th in total yardage under new offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. Running back Saquon Barkley and wideout DeVonta Smith have also seen slower starts, though Smith leads the team with 17 catches for 158 yards.
Despite the rough start, Brown has made it clear he wants to stay in Philadelphia and continue improving his production. The Eagles’ roster moves early in the season are still uncertain, but the latest report suggests the team will keep the veteran wide receiver in place through the trade deadline.
