The ICC has announced Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana as the Player of the Month for September, a highlight of India’s recent cricketing success.

Abhishek, 25, earned the award after a blistering run in the Asia Cup. He scored 314 runs in seven matches, averaging 44.85 with a jaw‑dropping 200‑strike‑rate. The left‑hander’s consistency helped India win key games, and he soon reached a career‑high 931 ICC Men’s T20I Batting Ranking points – the best ever in the format at the end of the Super Fours stage. “It feels great to win this ICC award,” Abhishek told reporters. “I’m proud to help the team win important matches.”

The silver‑ware also points to India’s growing T20I dominance. In his statement, Abhishek praised the team’s culture and the support from management, adding that the monthly honor reflects the hard work of everyone involved.

Smriti, the India vice‑captain, continued her strong form in the ODI series at home against Australia. She racked up 308 runs in four matches, averaging an impressive 77 and maintaining a 135.68 strike‑rate. Her highlights included a 117‑run knock and a 125‑run innings that helped India take control of the series.

In the third ODI, Smriti hit the quickest century by an Indian batter, reaching 100 off just 50 balls in New Delhi – a record that punched her through the competition from South Africa’s Tazmin Brits and Pakistan’s Sidra Amin. “I’m truly honoured to receive the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for September 2025,” Smriti said. “Recognition like this pushes me to keep growing and evolving as a player.” She added that her focus remains on delivering match‑winning performances.

Both players’ achievements come as India prepares for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, and the ICC’s recognition underscores the country’s rising stature in both men’s and women’s cricket. With strong batting, aggressive strike rates, and consistent performances, Abhishek and Smriti show that India’s talent pool continues to shine on the world stage.
