Mumbai, Oct 17 – Indian cue‑ist Dhruv Sitwala lost the World Billiards Championship final in Walsall, England, after four straight finals. The 27‑year‑old fell 2,948 – 677 to England’s David Causier, who hammered the match with six century breaks and a 699‑point flourish.
Sitwala had survived a tight quarter‑final against Martin Goodwill, winning by a single point after a 225‑point comeback. He then demolished Darren Clark by more than 1,000 points in the semi‑final, earning confidence heading into the final against the defending champion.
“After being 225‑all at one hour, the match slipped away,” Sitwala said upon returning to Mumbai. “I felt the pressure and got hypnotised by Causier’s dominance. My confidence dipped and I couldn’t find my touch.”
He won the national championship in 2024, then the Asian championship the same year, but a World title has eluded him in 2007, 2010, 2016 and now 2025. “I want to be World No. 1,” he said. “I will work hard again over the next six months.”
Causier’s final break of 699 sealed a clean sweep. Sitwala, left‑handed and a former Auckland and New Zealand Open champion, said the loss is a learning point. “I love the process and the grind,” he added. “I’ll return to the basics and come back stronger in the 2026 edition in Cairo. ”
