ICC Women’s ODI World Cup Trophy Arrives in Visakhapatnam, Sparking Excitement for 2025 Matches
Visakhapatnam buzzed with cricket fever on Sunday as the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup trophy made its grand entry during the official Trophy Tour. Top officials from the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) hailed this as a historic moment, celebrating the city’s role as a key host for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
ACA leaders unveiled the gleaming trophy at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, with Secretary Sana Sathish Babu and Joint Secretary Boyalla Vijay Kumar striking poses alongside talented women cricketers from Andhra Pradesh. The event highlighted the region’s deep roots in Indian cricket and set the stage for some thrilling action ahead.
At a lively press conference, ACA President Kesineni Sivanath couldn’t hide his pride. "We’ve always nurtured top talent here, and many women cricketers from Andhra have shone on the international stage," he said. "This will be the first time Women’s World Cup matches hit our shores, and the Trophy Tour is already building massive hype. With our women’s T20 stars joining in, it’s inspiring young talents to aim for global glory right from Visakhapatnam."
Secretary Babu shared the enthusiasm, stressing the ACA’s dedication to making the event unforgettable. "We’re gearing up to deliver a vibrant experience for players, fans, and everyone watching. I wish all the women’s teams the best for a successful tournament that motivates millions," he added.
Get ready for some high-stakes cricket in Visakhapatnam! The city will host two crucial league matches for India in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup: India vs South Africa on October 9 and India vs defending champions Australia on October 12. Fans can also catch Bangladesh vs South Africa on October 13, Australia vs Bangladesh on October 16, and England vs New Zealand on October 26. These matches promise edge-of-the-seat action at the ACA-VDCA Stadium.
Just last week, the Indian women’s cricket team wrapped up an intense training camp in Visakhapatnam. They focused on skills, fitness, and match simulations to gear up for the big event. India has come close to glory in the Women’s ODI World Cup, finishing as runners-up in 2005 and 2017, but they’ve never lifted the trophy. The full tournament features eight teams and runs from September 30 to November 2, with other venues like R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Holkar Stadium in Indore, and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai hosting games too.
Before kicking off their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on September 30 in Guwahati, India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series this month. The first two games happen at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, on September 14 and 17, with the decider at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 20.
The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup is shaping up to be a landmark for women’s cricket in India, and Visakhapatnam’s involvement is fueling the excitement. Stay tuned for more updates on this global showdown!
