Armand Membou has day to forget as part of Jets’ latest undisciplined showing

Armand Membou, the Jets’ rookie right tackle, trailed the Dallas Cowboys by a pack of penalties in their 37‑22 loss on Sunday.
He picked up four infractions—an illegal man down‑field, a holding, a false start and an off‑side—marking the first penalties he had ever committed in his NFL career. The Jets’ whole lineup added 11 penalties for 91 yards, bringing the team’s total for the week to 192 yards.
“No one hands you a penalty card and expects perfection. We’re learning every day,” said Olu Fashanu, a second‑year tackle. “Armand’s clipper is smart. He’s going to learn from this. We just keep moving forward.”
Membou declined interview requests after the game and slipped on his headphones while leaving the locker room. His teammates noted his frustration but stayed focused on next week’s road game.
The Jets offense wasn’t just hurt by penalties. The team also lost starters on defense. Kiko Mauigoa, a rookie linebacker, walked out in a walking boot after injuring his left foot during the first half. The injury hurts the defense, as the Jets have already moved him to a starting role because of exits from Quincy Williams and Marcelino McCrary‑Ball.
Tyler Baron, the rookie defensive end, missed a key tackle against Javonte Williams on a 66‑yard run that put the Cowboys inside the first‑down line. “I was supposed to be there,” Baron said afterward. “I slipped and missed the play. I’ll make sure I’m ready next time.”
The team’s roster also listed several inactive players, including defensive end Jermaine Johnson, cornerback Michael Carter II, running back Kene Nwangwu, tackle Esa Pole, tight ends Stone Smartt and Jelani Woods, and defensive lineman Leonard Taylor III.
Former Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who’s now Dallas’ head coach, noted that the win came in familiar territory—he was the Jets’ offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2011. “It felt good to end up on the winning side,” he said. “And it was special to celebrate with former Jets teammates like Bobby Mastrodi and Curtis Martin in the locker room.”
The game’s penalties and rookie struggles will be key talking points as the Jets regroup for their next matchup. Fans will be watching to see if Membou can reduce his penalty count and if the rookie defensive group can regain its footing—an essential story right before the Jets head back to play.
