Bengal Cabinet allots 200 acres of land for Raghunathpur-Tajpur economic corridor

West Bengal Boosts Industrial Growth with New Economic Corridor and Key Decisions
In a big move to supercharge West Bengal’s economy, the Trinamool Congress government has approved 200 acres of land for the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC). This land will help build the much-talked-about Raghunathpur-Tajpur economic corridor, aiming to bring in jobs and fresh investments.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave the green light during Thursday’s state Cabinet meeting. Officials at the Nabanna Secretariat shared that the meeting rolled out three key steps to rev up the industrial sector in West Bengal.
First up, the government hands over a whopping 200 acres to WBIDC to kickstart the Tajpur-Dankuni-Raghunathpur economic corridor. This project draws inspiration from the Amritsar-Dankuni Industrial Corridor and forms part of a larger plan to create multiple economic corridors across the state. Remember, CM Banerjee had earlier announced six such corridors to fuel industrial development in West Bengal: Raghunathpur-Tajpur, Dankuni-Kalyani, Dankuni-Jhargram, Dankuni-Cooch Behar, Joka-Garudi, and Kharagpur-Morgram.
The Cabinet didn’t stop there. They also decided to grant industrial status to all logistics businesses in the state, which could open doors for massive expansion in this sector. Plus, they approved filling 15 vacant posts at the Newtown Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) to smooth out infrastructure projects.
Sources say West Bengal plans to host a major industrial conference right after Durga Puja, giving businesses a chance to explore opportunities in the state.
A senior government official summed it up excitedly: "These three decisions will give a huge push to our industrial sector. Giving industrial status to logistics will help the business grow big time. The economic corridors will attract commerce, and we’ll see plenty of new jobs created."
These steps come at a crucial time, as the West Bengal government ramps up efforts to attract investments and create employment ahead of next year’s Assembly elections. By focusing on economic corridors and industrial incentives, the state hopes to position itself as a top destination for business growth in India.
