Abhishek Sharma lit up the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 with his explosive batting, helping India clinch the title against Pakistan. Even though his final knock ended quickly at just five runs, the young opener proved to be the star of the show.
Throughout the tournament, Sharma delivered blistering starts that set India on the path to victory. He forged key partnerships with vice-captain Shubman Gill, building solid foundations in match after match. By the end, Sharma racked up 314 runs in seven games, boasting an average of 44.85 and a stunning strike rate of 200. His aggressive style kept opponents on their toes and earned him the Player of the Tournament award—complete with a shiny new car as the prize.
“It’s always a pleasure to get a car,” Sharma said with a smile during the post-match ceremony at Dubai International Stadium. This marks his first such honor for the Indian team. Joining the squad right after their World Cup triumph wasn’t easy, he added. “We had a plan to play our natural game and show intent from the very first ball. I worked really hard on that.”
Sharma showered praise on captain Suryakumar Yadav, the coach, and the support staff for backing his bold approach. “You need special support to play like this, and that’s what I’ve been getting,” he explained. “Sure, there will be failures when you go hard, but that’s how you win big games for the team. Just stick to the process.”
The 25-year-old from Punjab decided early to attack from ball one, making full use of the powerplay fielding restrictions. Whether facing spinners or top fast bowlers, he stuck to his strategy. “I had it all planned—utilize the powerplay and give my team that early impact. It worked out perfectly.”
In the final, Sharma, Gill, and skipper Yadav fell early, but India chased down the target with five wickets in hand. Tilak Varma starred with an unbeaten 69, getting solid help from Sanju Samson (24) and Shivam Dube (33) to seal the thrilling win.
India’s bowlers set the tone by dismantling Pakistan’s strong start. From 113 for one, they crumbled to 146 all out, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s haul of 4 for 30, Varun Chakravarthy’s 2 for 30, and Axar Patel’s 2 for 26. It was a team effort that crowned India’s Asia Cup triumph.
