India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Clash Heats Up: Bhaichung Bhutia Calls for Fair Sports Policies

Excitement is building in Abu Dhabi as India and Pakistan gear up for their high-stakes Asia Cup 2025 showdown on Sunday. The two cricket giants, always fierce rivals, are set to deliver another thrilling encounter in this major tournament.

India kicked off their campaign strongly, defending their 2023 title with a massive nine-wicket victory over the UAE. Pakistan, meanwhile, starts against Oman before facing off against India. Fans can’t wait for the India vs Pakistan cricket match, which always draws massive crowds and online buzz.

But amid the cricket fever, former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has shared his thoughts on a bigger issue: government rules on sports involving Pakistan. He stresses the need for fair play across all games, not just cricket.

India’s spot in the Asia Cup follows the Union Sports Ministry’s guidelines. They allow matches against Pakistan in big international events like this one, but ban bilateral series in each other’s countries. So, while the Asia Cup cricket fixtures go ahead, one-on-one tours stay off-limits.

Bhutia keeps it straightforward on the government’s call. "It’s a government decision. If they say play, we play. If not, we don’t," he told reporters. But he pushes for equality in sports policies. "My only request is that it should apply to all sports, not just one. Whatever the government does for the country’s good, it needs to cover every sport, not pick and choose."

Shifting gears from cricket debates, Bhutia has his own exciting event lined up. The football legend, often called the ‘Sikkimese Sniper,’ will star in the 10th edition of the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata on December 21. This World Athletics Gold Label race turns Kolkata’s famous Red Road into a vibrant track for elite runners from India and abroad, plus thousands of everyday enthusiasts.

Bhutia calls it a special milestone. "I’m honored to be part of this 10th edition. Kolkata and Bengal always step up – people run for joy, unity, and health. This one will be just as big a hit as the others," he said.

Joining him is Bengali film star Srabanti Chatterjee, who’ll motivate everyone to get moving and live healthier lives through the event. With stars like these, the Kolkata running race is sure to inspire fitness fans across India.
