Dubai, Sep 20 – Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav knows how to stay focused amid the buzz. Ahead of India’s Super Fours clash with Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup, the 35-year-old skipper shared his tips for tuning out the “outside noise” during a lively press conference.
This will be the second India vs Pakistan showdown in the tournament, after both teams advanced to the Super Fours. Their group stage game already made headlines for the drama, including India’s decision to skip the post-match handshake with their rivals.
Reporters brought up that handshake snub again, but Yadav kept things light and on-point. When asked if India could repeat their strong showing – beyond just batting well – he quipped, “Oh, you mean good performance with the ball? Yes, definitely. There’s a great mix of skills with bat and ball. It feels amazing when the stadium is full and the crowd cheers so loud. We just want to give our all for the country and shine on the field.”
The Mumbai Indians star downplayed the India-Pakistan rivalry talk too. “I don’t know what rivalry you’re talking about,” he said with a smile. “When I step onto the ground, I see a packed stadium, and I tell my teammates, ‘Chalo bhai log, entertainment ka time aa gaya hai’ – time to entertain!”
Yadav also opened up on handling distractions before big matches like this Asia Cup thriller. His simple advice? “Close your room, switch off your phone, and sleep. That’s the best thing.” He admitted it’s not always easy, though. “You meet friends, head out for dinner, and with so many players around who check social media, it gets tough. But it’s your choice – what you listen to and keep in your mind. I’ve told the boys we need to block out that outside noise moving forward.”
Even after India’s group stage win over Pakistan, Yadav isn’t taking anything for granted. “That victory doesn’t give us an edge,” he stressed. “We’ll start from scratch, just like we did after reviewing our Friday game against Oman. The country always backs us, so keep supporting us in this one too.”
