The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. They accuse him of making an obscene gesture toward fans during Pakistan’s tense Asia Cup match against India on September 21 in Dubai. This Super Fours clash ended with India winning by six wickets, and the incident has sparked controversy ahead of the Asia Cup final between the two rivals this Sunday.
According to sources cited by Samaa TV, the PCB claims Arshdeep’s actions broke the ICC Code of Conduct by showing immoral behavior that disrespected the game. The board wants the ICC to take strong disciplinary steps against him, following standard procedures for such violations. “This brings cricket into disrepute,” the PCB stated, urging quick action to keep the sport clean.
This isn’t the first time the PCB has raised issues with Indian players. Earlier, they filed two complaints against India captain Suryakumar Yadav over comments he made after their group-stage win over Pakistan on September 14. The PCB felt Yadav politicized a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam by tying it to the match.
In his post-match remarks, Suryakumar said: “Perfect occasion, taking the time out, we stand by the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all, and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to make them smile.”
ESPNcricinfo reports that the ICC found Suryakumar guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct for those comments. He pleaded not guilty, but match referee Richie Richardson turned down the plea. Like Arshdeep’s case, Suryakumar faced a 30% fine on his match fee.
The ICC has also cracked down on Pakistani players in the same tournament. Fast bowler Haris Rauf got fined for using abusive language during a match, while opener Sahibzada Farhan received a warning for his flashy gun-shot celebration after reaching fifty in the first innings during the Super Fours game. As the Asia Cup heats up with India vs Pakistan in the spotlight, fans are watching closely for how the ICC handles these Code of Conduct issues.
