India-Pakistan Clash in Asia Cup Loses Buzz, Says Ex-Pak Captain Rashid Latif
Cricket fans love the India-Pakistan rivalry, but former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif feels the hype around their Asia Cup match is missing this time. The big showdown is set for Sunday in Dubai, but Latif thinks India’s easy agreement to play has toned down the excitement.
India’s sports ministry allows the team to face Pakistan in international tournaments like the Asia Cup, an eight-team event. However, bilateral series in each other’s country remain off-limits due to government rules. This decision fits right into India’s policy, keeping the continental clash alive.
"I’m surprised India agreed to play Pakistan so smoothly this time," Latif told . "Hype builds when there’s drama or restrictions. Tickets are still available in Dubai – that’s a first! Usually, these matches sell out fast."
The 56-year-old added that high ticket prices are also keeping crowds away initially. "In places like Centurion, Sydney, or Chennai, it’s always packed. Prices here are steep, but expect a full house soon. The real buzz will start tomorrow – it’ll be a thrilling India vs Pakistan encounter."
India kicked off their Asia Cup campaign with a dominant nine-wicket win over UAE on Wednesday, led by Suryakumar Yadav. Pakistan starts against Oman on Friday before taking on India.
Echoing the calm vibe, 1983 World Cup hero Kapil Dev urged everyone to keep it simple. Talking to reporters on Thursday, he said, "Just focus on winning. Players should play, and the government handles its side. Don’t turn this into a big deal."
