Bangladesh Crushes Hong Kong in Historic First T20I Win at Asia Cup

Bangladesh kicked off their Asia Cup campaign with a bang, securing their maiden T20I victory over Hong Kong by chasing down 144 runs with ease. Skipper Litton Das led the charge with a brilliant 59 off 39 balls, guiding his team to a seven-wicket win at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Hong Kong put up a fighting total of 143/7, thanks to Nizakat Khan’s 42 and Zeeshan Ali’s 30. But Bangladesh’s bowlers, especially Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/21) and Rishad Hossain (2/31), kept things tight and stopped the opposition from posting a bigger score.

Chasing the target, Bangladesh got off to a quick start in the powerplay. Opener Parvez Hossain Emon smashed two fours and a six off Ayush Shukla in his first 13 balls. But Shukla bounced back, getting Emon out with a top-edged catch at deep mid-wicket. Tanzid Hasan followed soon after, caught at mid-on while trying to loft Ateeq Iqbal. Despite the early wickets, Hong Kong’s 11 extras helped Bangladesh reach 51/2 by the end of the powerplay.

That’s when Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy took over. The duo built a solid 95-run partnership for the third wicket, mixing smart running with timely boundaries. They brought up Bangladesh’s hundred in the 13th over, keeping the pressure on Hong Kong’s bowlers.

Hong Kong tried to fight back by slowing the pace and showing sharp fielding, but Litton turned it on in the 14th over. He edged one for four off Shukla, then shuffled across to scoop another boundary over the keeper—12 runs came from that over alone. Litton kept the momentum going, driving Ehsan Khan through extra cover for four and slog-sweeping Yasim Murtaza for a massive six. He reached his fifty off 33 balls with a quick two.

Litton even sliced Murtaza for four when the bowler strayed wide. He fell short of the finish line, bowled by Ateeq for 59, but Towhid Hridoy (35 not out) stayed calm and guided Bangladesh home in just 17.4 overs—14 balls to spare.

This thrilling Asia Cup Group B clash shows Bangladesh’s T20I strength against Hong Kong, with Litton Das emerging as the star performer. Fans are already buzzing about their next match!

Brief Scores: Hong Kong 143/7 (Nizakat Khan 42, Zeeshan Ali 30; Tanzim Hasan Sakib 2-21, Rishad Hossain 2-31) lost to Bangladesh 144/3 in 17.4 overs (Litton Das 59, Towhid Hridoy 35*; Ateeq Iqbal 1-13, Ayush Shukla 1-32) by seven wickets.
