Abu Dhabi, Sep 23 — In a high-stakes Super 4s clash of the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first against Sri Lanka at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. This Tuesday showdown could make or break both teams’ hopes in the tournament.
Both sides kicked off the Super 4s with losses—Pakistan fell to India, and Sri Lanka dropped a game to Bangladesh. A win here keeps their Asia Cup dreams alive, so expect some intense T20 cricket action.
Pakistan stuck with their winning lineup from before, bringing no changes to the squad. Sri Lanka, however, shook things up with two swaps: Chamika Karunaratne and Maheesh Theekshana stepped in for Dunith Wellalage and Mishara.
Pakistan skipper Salman Agha kept it straightforward after the toss. "It’s a solid wicket that shouldn’t change much," he said. "We’re bowling first to set the tone. We need to sharpen our batting and bowling—it’s a fresh start and a big challenge today."
Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka admitted he’d have bowled first too but was fine starting with the bat. He called the pitch a good one and added that his team has played strong cricket overall. "We’ve got just that 10% to tweak in death bowling and batting," he noted.
Here’s how the teams line up:
Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Kusal Perera, Charith Asalanka (c), Dasun Shanaka, Kamindu Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara.
Pakistan: Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Hussain Talat, Mohammad Nawaz, Salman Agha (c), Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Haris (wk), Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed.
