Carlos Alcaraz has secured a place in the ATP Finals semifinals after Alex de Minaur beat Taylor Fritz 7‑6(3), 6‑3 on Thursday. The Spanish world No. 1 now tops the Jimmy Connors Group if he defeats Lorenzo Musetti later today. If Alcaraz falls, Musetti will finish first in the group.

Alcaraz is chasing the year‑end No. 1 ranking. Two victories this week put his season tally at 70 wins, enough to keep him above Jannik Sinner and lock in the top spot. If he loses to Musetti, he will play Sinner in the knockout round. A win over Sinner would let Sinner claim the year‑end No. 1 title and the record‑breaking season.

This is Alcaraz’s third appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals. He reached the semifinals in 2023 and has already won eight titles in 2025, including the French Open and the US Open. He also captured Masters 1000 titles in Monte Carlo, Rome and Cincinnati.

After de Minaur’s win, he joins Alcaraz in the top two of the Jimmy Connors Group. Musetti will get a shot at the semifinals by beating Alcaraz. Taylor Fritz, who was 1‑2 before this round, is eliminated from the standings.

The day’s results give de Minaur a 1‑2 record and keep his hopes alive, while Alcaraz’s victory pushes him to the final four and keeps his year‑end No. 1 chase alive.
